What should I ask when shopping a smart lock

Unread post by Jim »

When shopping a smart lock, you should ask questions below:
1. Is the password saved in the door lock or the cloud?
The security of smart locks is our first consideration. The door password of the smart lock can be saved on the door lock or stored in the cloud. There are risks in keeping your door password in the cloud. To better protect home security and personal privacy, the password should be stored in the door lock and the cloud.
2. Are fingerprint chips biometric or optical?
Biometric fingerprint identification technology is a kind of technology that uses human's own physiological or behavioral characteristics to identify by computer. The fingerprint chip uses the intelligent lock of biometric technology, which has the characteristics of relatively stable fingerprint and relatively high recognition rate. However, biometrics also has some limitations. It is easy to be affected by static electricity, and finger stains or abrasion will affect the collection of information.Optical fingerprint recognition technology uses light reflection imaging to record and verify fingerprints. The intelligent lock with optical fingerprint identification technology has strong antistatic ability and relatively strong environmental adaptability, and has certain defensive properties in the aspects of anti-pressure, anti-wear and stain corrosion. However, the optical fingerprint identification technology also has some shortcomings, and its security has some hidden dangers. Because the optical fingerprint identification security performance is weak and can not distinguish the true and false fingerprint, if some criminals deliberately obtain or malicious imitation, it is very easy to open the door.
3. What communication mode does the intelligent lock adopt?
For smart locks fingerprint unlock, APP remote unlock, etc. the communication modules used include wifi module, Bluetooth module and ZigBee module.Among them, ZigBee technology has an advanced encryption system, which greatly improves the security performance and can better protect the family security.

Are fingerprint locks really more secure than mechanical locks?

Are fingerprint locks really more secure than mechanical locks?
The main component of the lock is key cylinder. Both fingerprint lock and mechanical lock use the key cylinder. So, if the fingerprint lock uses same security grade (for example at least 5 minutes to unlock) key cylinder as mechanical lock, then the fingerprint lock is more secure than mechanical lock. Because mechanical lock is passive anti theft and fingerprint lock or other type electronic lock is active anti theft. It has more function such as trigger sound and light alarm, send intrusion alarm message to smart phone. Moreover, smart lock is more convenient than mechanical lock.
We know the event that Tesla coil can open smart lock. And now good quality smart lock will have Tesla coil test and ensure it will not open the lock. The principle is using Strong electromagnetic to disrupt the lock and enable it to reset, then open the lock.
