How to connect the detector eol with alarm panel

Unread post by vedard »

Should the EOL (end of line resistor) be input in the detector part or in the alarm panel part?
The divider resistance *R1 is not welded on the circuit board by the alarm manufacturer, but attached to the alarm host (or address module in the bus system) when we buy it. Its two ends line segment is connected to the detector on the signal line. If the alarm signal line is short-circuited artificially, whether it is short-circuited to the positive pole of the power supply or to the "ground" pole, the voltage value on the alarm signal line is close to + 12V or 0V, exceeding the limit value set by the alarm host, the host will send an alarm signal. If the alarm signal line is cut off, the alarm signal voltage of the circuit is the same as the short-circuit of the alarm signal line to the ground, then the alarm host will send an alarm signal.
Therefore, the EOL resistor is used for tamper resistance.
If the EOL resistor is installed on the wiring terminal in the alarm host, the alarm host will lose the role of preventing human damage. (Tamper resistance)
Alarm system is the key part of security system. The alarm system is installed in the key parts of the application unit, such as the bank vault, etc. If it is damaged, the consequences will be serious.
Below we shared the two wiring ways of the EOL wiring. The EOL wiring should be consistent with the alarm host setup for the EOL wiring.

Wire multiple detectors to one wired zone

Unread post by vedard »

The security alarm panel has limited zones to equip detectors. For example, ST-VGT has 32 wireless and 8 wired zones. If there are more detectors to wire, what should we do?
Actually, we can wire more detectors (generally speaking maximum 3 is better) to one zone. What detectors can be wired to the same zone? The same type detectors (for example door contact or PIR motion sensor) at the same area (for example in the living room) be wired to the same zone is better. Because the alarm panel will show the zone alarm, zone fault, if multiple detectors are wired to the same zone and the wired detector are nearby with same type, it will be easy to identify the alarm or fault detectors.
For wireless zone, some alarm panel may not allow to equip multiple detectors. If it allow, just enroll the multiple detectors into one zone.
For wired zone, please refer to the diagram below. Only one EOL is needed to connect to the circuit. The EOL connection type (Series and parallel) depends on last detector N/O or N/C type if mixed detectors are connected.
